Can I buy Progesterone Cream over the counter or is it prescription only.?

I have been referred by my Doctor to a Fertility Specialist to hopefully get myself put on ';Clomid'; to help me start ovulating, but as the earliest appointment I could get won't be until the end of February I wondered if I could try Progesterone Cream in the meantime to try and start ovulating beforehand. My Husband and I have been trying for a baby for over a year, and blood tests have confirmed I am not ovulating, but I have heard that applying this cream can help. Any information on this would really be appreciated, as well as where and how I can get hold of some. ThanksCan I buy Progesterone Cream over the counter or is it prescription only.?
Progesterone cream won't trigger ovulation.

'Every month when an egg is released by the ovary (ovulation), the spot where the egg came from turns into a yellow spot called the corpus luteum. The function of the corpus luteum is to produce progesterone. This production starts just after ovulation and generally lasts for around 2 weeks. At that point in time the production of progesterone ceases and it is the dropping levels of progesterone that are the main signal to start the menses.'

Progesterone can be used to bring on your period, and to build your lining, but it's produced (and used medically) after ovulation.

You want to be careful, too, if you aren't sure you have a progesterone deficiency, because estrogen and progesterone balance each other. If they're knocked out of balance, your cycle can become very irregular.

I'd check with your Dr. first.

Try is it? wild yams cream,..that has progesterone in it? We have a couple of wonderful natural food stores,..and they are right on top of such issues,..if you can find a natural store,..I like natures storehouse,.. If not, do the research online,..yes there is stuff out there,..you can order online,..it is a bit pricey if I remember,..like $30.00 or so???Hope this helps!!
Progesterone will not make you ovulate.

It is very wise to be treated by a fertility specialist while on Clomid because they will likely monitor you much closer than an OB and know more about other available medications if Clomid doesn't do the trick.

I know waiting is frustrating.

Have you considered alternative treatment, like acupuncture? There are many acupuncturists who specialize in fertility who may also help. GL!
Progesterone cream does not trigger ovulation - it helps with the luteal phase (the period of time after ovulation) and can help maintain a pregnancy. Progesterone is usually used AFTER ovulation has occurred.

I have a friend who swears that accupuncture helped her to regulate her cycle and achive ovulation. I would try something like this as it does not actual add outside drugs to your body.

The RE is going to want to do tons of tests and if you are supplementing with progesterone, your test could be off and it will be more difficult for them to help you achieve pregnancy.
