My father has gout and I was wondering if there any over the counter/prescription drugs or creams he could use

My father has this condition called gout. He has a hard time walking because his foot is swollen and has a burning sensation. I was wondering what kind of medication or cream I could go out and buy for him? Would icy hot work? Does anyone know any other methods to help treat the pain besides using strong prescription drugs like percoset? I don't like the idea of using strong prescription drugs like that.My father has gout and I was wondering if there any over the counter/prescription drugs or creams he could use
Gout is treated with the prescription drug, Allpurinol. Gout is caused because your body is having trouble getting rid of uric acid. He may develop kidney stones also. Please encourage him to take the allpurinol. It is cheap. Also, go to the health food store and get him BLACK CHERRY juice. one tablespoon a day helps the body to naturally get rid of the uric acid. He also needs to limit his amout of protien from wild game, organ meat, and red meat. Please look up gout on the internet. There is a whole diet plan. My husband has this diesease and I just have to alter his diet, he take Allpurinol, and we are living a pain free life for him.My father has gout and I was wondering if there any over the counter/prescription drugs or creams he could use
Get a bottle of cherry syrup from GNC

Gout is from too much uric acid and the cherry juice neutralizes the uric acid

Some other things that are good for gout are garlic, celery, fresh fruit and vegetables flax seed oil and enzymes.

Also some things that cause gout are alchol, too much meat, gravy and mushrooms. He needs to limit these things.
You father needs to take advil or aleve for the inflammation. He will need to go to a doctor to be put in a maintenance drug called allopurinol that will prevent gout in the future because it will reoccur. He has to restrict certain things from his diet like turkey because it has uric acid in it. Ask him to see a doctor soon.

Just as a pointer: Allopurinol is a maintainance drug. It is not used for treating gout! Ibuprofen and any anti-inflammatory drugs are treatment for ACUTE gout.
He needs to change his diet! Gout is caused by too much uric acid. Aren't quite sure why some get gout and some don't but diets high in protein particularly animal protein are one of the causes listed and they can definitely trigger an attack. One thing he shouldn't eat is turkey. My mother has gout too and they finally were told about turkey. She does much better now she doesn't eat ANY turkey.

Simple treatments are to raise and rest the affected joint(s) for at least 24 hours and take Ibuprofen...aspirin is not recommended.
Gout is a form of arthritis. Nasty condition. Urate crystals are deposited in the joints, usually the big toe and feet. Very painful. The best thing that your father can do is change is eating habits. No meats, especially red meat, no alcohol etc. Talk with his doctor and set up a life style change. Sorry.
Anti-Inflammatories like Advil or Alleve will help some. Sometimes it takes a stronger, prescription pain reliever.
he need to go to the doctor they will give him pills for 10-15 days then they will give him allopurinol 300 mg.

he will need to take daily.
